Facebook integration part I. (Creating a Facebook App)

Last Updated: Jun 06, 2016 02:53PM CEST
In order to allow your users to Sign  in to  your application with their Facebook accounts or to share data between the app and their Facebook profiles, you will need to set up your Facebook integration first. The first step of this configuration is setting up the Facebook connector application, which you should do before publishing your ShoutEm app.

Setting up the Facebook app - Part I.

First of all, login to your Facebook account. Once you are logged in, open the Facebook Developers website:

In the top right corner, click on My apps, and select Add a New App option.

After clicking on the Add a New App button , you will get a popup asking you to select a platform. Please click on the Basic setup link on the bottom.

In the next step you need to enter the following:

Application name that will be checked for validity by Facebook service
Category - You need to select at least the main category. Choose the category corresponding to your Shoutem app.

Leave other fields blank. You can see how it should look like in this screenshot:

After you click on the Create app ID button, you will get another popup that requires you to pass Facebook security check and show that you are not an evil robot preordered for world domination. After you confirm that you are human, currently done by selecting cat photos, you should see the following:

Click on the Show button under the app secret field and copy Facebook App ID and App Secret from the boxes in question. However, leave the Facebook App interface open, as we will need to do some additional settings there.

Entering Facebook data in the ShoutEm app builder

After you've copied the data from your Facebook Application, you need to enter it into the Facebook Integration interface inside the ShoutEm app builder, that can be found under Settings -> Sharing Settings -> Facebook. Here is the example of it:

You need to copy both the API Key (App ID) and Facebook Secret (App Secret) under their corresponding sections inside the app builder as shown in the screenshot above. Take note that the keys used in this example are only test ones, and you will need to enter your own inside your interface.

After you have set up the integration keys, click on the Save button on the bottom.

Next step is entering data from the app builder inside the Facebook app that we just created, covered in the Part II. of this walkthrough.
